SVS New President

Yoav Alony-Gilboa was elected as the new President of the Sheep Veterinary Society at their autumn conference held in Windermere, Lake District at the end of September. He takes over from Iain Richards who becomes Senior Vice-President and is joined on the Committee by new Junior Vice-President Nick Hart.

The Sheep Veterinary Society brings together vets, advisers and flock owners from all over the United Kingdom, Europe and the wider world who are interested primarily in the welfare of sheep. Sheep are farmed throughout the world and their health and welfare depends on the care and expertise of the people who tend to them. The Society is a forum for education and discussion of sheep health and welfare. It also builds strong links with sheep farmers through the National Sheep Association. In May 2017, the Society celebrated their ‘Golden Anniversary’ and was honoured to host the International Sheep Veterinary Congress.

In June 2019, we are delighted to be joining University of Guelph and the Small Ruminant Veterinarians of Ontario for our quadrennial “European” meeting.

Our Aim

“To promote the prevention
of disease and the welfare of
sheep by providing a forum
for discussion, distribution of
research results and provision
of advice on veterinary
matters relating to sheep”
