Chinese Lanterns

Message from Nick Hart
I am dismayed to see that there is a proposal to release multiple numbers of Chinese lanterns.

While I understand the sentiments behind the desire to demonstrate a level of support this must not be the way to do it.  We have known for many years that these Lanterns end up drifting onto farmland. They are attractive to inquisitive farm animals and there is documentary evidence to show that they are ingested, leading to animal casualty.

These deaths are prolonged and painful.

I am sure that the public would refrain from doing this if they realised the suffering that these lanterns can cause.

Please be responsible and find another way.
