Ultrasound examination of the respiratory tract – practical course for farm animal practitioners.

Sunday 8th September 2019 - Springfield Country Hotel, Wareham BH20 5AL

The course will describe ultrasound examination of the ovine respiratory tract and the identification, treatment and control of common diseases with particular reference to ovine pulmonary adenocarcinoma.  A data stick will be provided for each participant with extensive course materials including ultrasound video recordings of all the common ovine respiratory diseases for future reference.

During the afternoon clinical session, delegates will be divided into groups of three with one ultrasound machine per group and examine around 12 sheep with various lung pathologies including OPA. Delegates may wish to bring along their own ultrasound machine to this practical session.

Places are strictly limited to 16 delegates to enable us to provide detailed individual instruction.

09.30 - 09.45 am                Dr Phil Scott  - Trans-thoracic ultrasound

(How to achieve diagnostic ultrasound images, appearance of the common sheep respiratory diseases/pathologies, accuracy, common errors, applications of ultrasound examination in general practice, experience of whole flock scanning for OPA in more than 50 flocks with several farms entering year 5 of a control/elimination programme)

11.00 – 11.15 am               Tea/Coffee at Springfield Country Hotel

11.15 - 12.30 pm                Continue Q & A session, discussion

12.30 - 13.30 pm               Pack lunches (travel to farm)

13.30 - 16.30 pm               On-farm – Practical ultrasound scanning. Please bring protective clothing and rubber boots.

16.30 – 17.00 pm              Q & A, discussion.
